Finally, a revolutionary treatment for fungal nail infections, warts and scars using the latest in LASER technology.

It is estimated that 20 percent of Canadians are currently affected by fungal infections of the nails. Until recently, treatment consisted of topical solutions that were successful approximately 10% of the time. The only other option was oral medications that are only 50% successful and have the potential for serious side effects, including liver damage. Recently Health Canada has approved the Cutera Genesis Plus Nd YAG LASER for use on fungal nails, warts and scars. Cutera has appointed Accent on Feet to launch the use in Canada and devise protocols.

Known medically as onychomycosis, this stubborn/resistant nail fungus often causes nails to become discolored, thickened and separated from the nail bed. The infection usually begins in one nail but slowly spreads to additional nails. Approximately 50% of the population will have at least one infected nail during the course of their lives. Patients who suffer from fungal nails are often too embarrassed to wear open-toed shoes or show their feet. “The Genesis Plus laser is a great innovation in the treatment of fungal nails and it has exceeded my expectations for safety and efficacy,” said Hartley Miltchin DPM. “The options I've had in the past were limited because they didn't work very well and patients were concerned about side effects.” Miltchin adds, “I stopped prescribing oral medications years ago because the risks outweighed the benefits.”

Genesis Plus utilizes Cutera's patented microsecond technology and features a proprietary delivery system with a temperature sensor to improve the practitioner and patient experience. "What impresses me about the Genesis Plus are the safety, effectiveness and speed of the treatments. In one 10-15 minute session, I can treat a patient who has been suffering for years with unsightly, often painful, deformed and discolored nails," said Miltchin. "There is no downtime and my patients have been extremely pleased.” “In my 30 years of practice, fungal nails and warts have been a frustrating and challenging, but now there is a promising new treatment.”
